Sunsari (Pahichan) May 31 – Blue Diamond Society has said that 20 thousand gender and sexual minority have come into contact in Sunsari . Itahari Chapter of BDS informed that 20 thousand are in touch with society. At a program organized by BDS which was assisted by Norwegian Embassy, Chief of Chapter Rabi Shrestha presented such data.
Shrestha said though the number of this community is higher than the figure, they are reluctant to disclose their identity. If society is positive on them, they will come out with their identity.
The members of this community have not taken citizenship under O category. People who received citizenship now want to change their name.
“If there is a provision of changing the name, more and more pople with gets the citizenship,” Shrestha said. District Development Committee Sunsari has allocated two Lakh and 80 thousand and Itahari one Lakh rupee for the members of this community. Shrestha said the budget is very minimal.
He said they are incapable of providing vocational training to the members of this community. Shrestha said local bodies should allocate budget for the members of this community stating that only the budget of donor agency is insufficient.
Due to the lack of employment, around 50 homosexual and transgender are compelled to engage in sex profession. According to Shrestha, they need training and employment to bring them out of current profession.
