Kathmandu (Pahichan) January 19 – Blue Diamond Society has expanded its branch offices in the five districts of hill and inner Terai. The branches were extended following the support from National Centre for AIDs and STC Control, a government body.
Manisha Dhakal, Executive Director of BDS, said purposes of such branches are imparting knowledge sexual health of homosexual and transgender, HIV test and recommendation, and advocacy for the rights of gender and sexual minority.
“The incumbent centre will remain as branches of office but in the long-run they will be developed as autonomous bodies,” said Dhakal, adding that though the tenure of such branches are for seven months for now it will be extended.
The news branches are in Tanahu, Dolti, Salyan, Udayapur and Sindhuli. There will be 21 staffs in each branch. “In other districts, we already have our branches, government provides assistances in those five districts to open branches,” said Dhakal. “It is positive things as it helps to create awareness about the issues of this community.”
