Education Ministry under Secretary Pandey underlines the need of continuation of awareness programs
Kathmandu (Pahichan) July 29 – Under Secretary of Ministry of Education Gauri Shankar Pandey has said that awareness programs on gender and sexual minorities should be continued. “Family and society is yet to make a positive attitude towards this community so we need effective awareness programs and activities,” Pandey said. Such program according to him will be helpful to turn negative attitude into positive.
Pandey expressed such view at a training organized by day project of Blue Diamond Society concerning the leadership development and sexual health. According to him like in grade 6, 7, and 8, the issue of gender and sexual monitories should be incorporated in the curricula of 9, 10. 11 and 12.
He suggested making efforts with Curriculum Development Center. He informed that there are not discriminatory provisions in the education policy. “Education is fundamental right of people and all the people should get such right, only the education could bring changes,” said Pandey.
In the program, the member of gender and sexual minority Pushpa Lama said members of this community are facing sexual violence. He said there are problems to complaint the violations against this community. She informed that there cases of suicide are increasing as home and society would not accept the reality of this community.
