I am ready to fight for the rights of sexual and gender minority : Lawmaker Shrestha
Kathmandu (Pahichan) June 16 – Lawmaker Bijya KC Shrestha has said that she is ready to fight to secure the rights of sexual and gender minority. KC who represents NC in province no.3 Assembly said: “Members of this community are like us so we should not discriminate them,” said KC adding that province no.3 government did not incorporate the issue of this community in its policy and program.
She raised the issue after the concerns of this community were not addressed in the policy and program. “I raised this issue with a view that members of this community must get an opportunity to be prosperous.
Even journalist asked me about the data I presented there,” KC said. “Issues of this community are not in limelight because they are suppressed and their issues are not highlighted,” said Shrestha. She said members of this community cannot share their plights and problems with their guardians.
She also mentioned about the Supreme Court verdict and a government report on same-sex marriage. She said other provincial parliament and government must raise the issue of sexual and gender minority.
