Kathmandu (Pahichan) August 3 – Leader of Nepal Student Union Urmila Thapaliya has said that gender and sexual minority could be accommodated in the new committee of union. For this, Urmila said members of sexual and gender minority should be aware and active.
“The gender and sexual minority could be accommodated in the central committee of NSU but they should be active,” Thapaliya said adding that there should be representative of this community in colleges.
In the upcoming convention of NSU, Thapaliya has announced the candidacy for the general secretary. She said she is always near to gender and sexual minority and inviting them in the program.
She is also asking her friends to call members of this community in the program. “They are like us so they should not be treated in a different way, it is your responsibility to convince them,” said Thapaliya. She said it is unfortunate to look members of this community in a different way as constitution has guaranteed their rights.
She underlined the need of amending NSU statute as per the constitution provisions. She is preparing to raise this issue in the meeting of NSU. She suggested coming as a college representatives. Without being representatives, she said that it is not possible to put pressure to secure the rights. She requested LGBTI to disclose their identity.
