Kathmandu(pahichan) October 14 – In 2007, when a Belgium man named Peter Platel arrived in Nepal, he had an idea. He recognized the demand from the local LGBTI community to learn hair and makeup skills, and the opportunities it could open for those who wanted to train seriously. A year later Peter returned with his makeup and hair supplies and ready to teach!
Since then Peter has been coming to Nepal almost every year to run beauty workshops for the local LGBTI community, and has had some start students who have made a name for themselves in the Nepali beauty industry. He also began a small NGO called Makeup 2 Makeup, which helps sponsor local community members in other skill training courses, such as English language development and fashion design. Makeup 2 Makeup strives to give support to those interested in taking charge of their future opportunities in life, and providing the courses and workshops necessary to make their dreams a reality.
This years workshop will be held from October 27th to November 6th, with no classes held on Saturday or Sunday. Hair will be taught from 9am to 1pm and Makeup from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Participants do not have to sign up for both. Peter is looking for serious participants who are wanting to make the beauty industry a part of their future. This year there will be a 500 rupee deposit that will be returned after the workshop depending on the student’s attendance. This is an intense course and we ask that only serious participants apply!
