Binod B.C./Palpa (Pahichan) November 16 – The number of LGBTI members receiving citizenship as per their gender identity is increasing day by day. The members of this community are receiving citizenship as per the circular issued by Ministry of Home Affairs to District Administration Offices. The District Administration Office Palpa, for the first time, has issued the citizenship to gender and sexual minority.
Earlier, Palpa District was hesitant to issue the citizenship though Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kailai, Kaski, Makawanpur, Siraha among others were providing citizenship on the basis of identity. Palpa has provided citizenship to Abantika Gharti in her fifth attempt. Gharti is the first people to receive citizenship in the district on the basis of gender identity.
She said along with citizenship members of this community should get the rights like other marginalized community such as male, female, Dalit, Muslim among others. She said she is busy in the dancing programs in the various places. She is also vice-chair of Bharosha Samaj Butwal and spending her time in the dances. She is preparing to take passport on the basis of gender identity.
