Kathmandu(Pahichan) July 23-Chairman of Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee Baburam Bhattarai has assured that rights of gender and sexual minorities mentioned in the draft constitution will remain intact. Bhattarai is of the view those rights will not be deleted though some people want to do so.
He assured that he would play role to incorporate more rights of this community in the final version of constitution. Bhattarai made such commitment in a meeting with Chairman of Blue Diamond Society Pinki Gurung, Executive Director Manisha Dhakal and transgender Bhumika Shrestha and Rjaesh Lama.
Gurung urged to write separate fundamental rights of gender and sexual minorities, ensuring the same-sex marriage and ensuring the representation of the community from center to local body as well as representation in Inclusive Commission. Gurung also demanded reservation for the community in the employment sector.
The delegation also asked not to implement suggestions provided by Nepal Bar Association not to incorporate the gender and sexual words from the statute. Bhattarai said no one could delete the provisions already written in the constitution.
