Transgender denied from citizenship: Parajuli

Lalitpur (Pahichan) November 27 – Public Health Office of Lalitpur District Kedar Nath Parajuli has said that though 40, 0000 citizenships have been distributed to Indian; country’s transgender have not received citizenship.

At a program organized by Parichaya Samaaj Lalitpur with representatives of government offices on HIV and human rights, Parajuli made such remark.  “We distributed 40, 0000 citizenships to Indian nationals but we failed to distribute citizenship to our citizenship on the basis of identity,” said Parajuli.

“The constitution has addressed the rights of this community, the members of this community should increase their activities,” said Parajuli.  “You have been denied from identity, access to information and self-respect,” He said, “It is all state’s responsibility, we will provide full possible support,” said Parajuli.   He suggested visiting offices and providing suggestions. “If there are issues that we cannot address, we will forward it to Ministry,” said Parajuli.

Social Mobilization Chief of District Development Committee Bisheshwor Koirala advised to initiate program from the local level. “We have to enter from the same level from where problem erupts,” said Koirala.  “If we fail to address any issues, we will forward them to District level,” Koirala said requesting to come up with proposal format.

HIV AIDS Control program Chief of Public Health Sebak Nepal it is a main priority of country to bring programs targeting the people who are on risk of HIV AIDS. “You have to advise donor agencies to launch program in coordination with government agencies,” Nepal said adding that there is a need of continuous debate on how to make the programs effective.

General Secretary of Federation of Gender and Sexual Minority Manoranajn Baidya, Vice-Chairman of Blue Diamond Society Umesh Pandey said new constitution has addressed the gender and sexual minority. They advised to incorporate this community in district level plan and policy. They said Parichaya Samaj is without any budget and it is working on volunteer basis.
