TU to settle registration row from Academic Council
Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 15 – Exam Control Office of Tribhuwan University Balkhu has said that issues raised by transgender community about registration form will be settled by Academic Council. Transgender community is pressing TU to make a provision allowing filling forms mentioning their gender identity.
On the same issue, Ministry of Education and University Grant Commission have instructed to make a national policy. “We will discuss about this issue in the Academic Council,” said Exam Controller Pushpa Joshi.
There has been dilly-dallying to hold the meeting to settle this issue. He said though this issue could be taken to Senate, it has not been forwarded as Ministry of Education has instructed to make a national law on it.
The issue was discussed in the meeting of Academic Council. The senate meeting has been delayed as prime minister KP Oli is reluctant to participate on it. Earlier, a team of Blue Diamond Society Chairman Pinky Gurung had submitted a memorandum after Transgender Rukshana Kapali was denied to fill forms as per gender identity.
