Kathmandu, (Pahichan) January 15 – Blue Diamond Society (BDS) has drawn the attention of National Planning Commission to incorporate the issues of homosexuals and third gender in the policies and program of the country. Chairman of BDS, mother organization of sexual minority, Sanjeev Gurung Pinki demanded for the inclusive and equitable society, the sexual minorities should get equal rights and priorities.
She underlined the need of economic, social and political empowerment of sexual minorities and their role should be enhanced in the policy decisions, the letter submitted to Commission states. Similarly, violence, discrimination and exclusive of this minority community should be ended.
“There is a need of significant and meaningful particiaiption of sexual minorities in the governance and development system through the gender mainstreaming, the letter further reads. Similarly, the society has demanded that programs for empowerment and capacity building of third gender, and other protection measures should be taken immediately.
The society has demanded that there should be at least 1 percent participation of sexual minorities in the all structures of all government. Similarly, sexual minority budget, extension of third gender programs in all districts and formation of mechanism to tackle the violence against the group are other demands. The letter has called for long-term vision for the creation of inclusive and equitable society and nation. She also demanded that BDS has prepared a long-term visions, objectives and policies of sexual minorities.
