For the first time, I saw myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/04\/09\/this-tweet-about-a-dad-showing-off-his-sons-boyfriend-at-work-has-gone-viral\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Another heartwarming post<\/a>, this time about a proud father, went viral in April.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>\u201cMy dad shows off my boyfriend and I at work\u00a0?\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>\u2014\u00a0Louis Jr<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While the last tweets promoted self-acceptance, these ones from 18-year-old Louis Jr showed the joys of acceptance from your dad.<\/p>\n<p>When Louis Sr was asked by customers at his restaurant to talk about his son, he did so enthusiastically, even mentioning his son\u2019s boyfriend Christian\u2014before texting Louis Jr for a photo of his partner to show off to the patrons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSend me the pic of u and ur boy toy,\u201d he told his son. Wouldn\u2019t give it up for the world.\u2764\ufe0f\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"nativodesktopbottom\"><\/div>\n<p>Parents accepting their queer kids is wonderful to see, whether it\u2019s a dad, non-binary parent or\u2014in the case of this next queer, gay viral moment\u2014a mum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/04\/17\/a-mum-finally-accepted-her-bisexual-daughter-because-of-love-simon-and-its-gone-viral\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In March<\/a>, 18-year-old Jade tweeted that after seeing\u00a0<em>Love, Simon<\/em>\u00a0with her mother, she received the response she had desired when she first told her family about her sexuality.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_313597\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-313597\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/images\/2019\/01\/best_queer_viral_moments_2018_twitter_loserichie-650x438.jpg\" alt=\"Tweet reading: &quot;She grabbed my hand in the theatre while simon came out to his family, &amp; mouthed \u2018I\u2019m sorry\u2019 to me with tears in her eyes because when I came out I never got acceptance&quot;\" width=\"650\" height=\"438\" \/><figcaption class=\"op-vertical-below op-left op-small wp-caption-text\"><i>Jade produced one of the most heartwarming gay viral stories of the year (loserichie\/twitter)<\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She wrote that \u201cin 2014 I came out to my mum as bisexual, &amp; she told me she would never look at me the same. I cried in the bathroom for 6 hours\u2026 my mum tried to force me to be straight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Four years later, her mum finally realised the error of her ways, Jade said, writing that \u201cshe grabbed my hand in the theatre while simon came out to his family, &amp; mouthed \u2018I\u2019m sorry\u2019 to me with tears in her eyes because when I came out I never got acceptance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And when the pair were leaving the cinema, Jade said her mum \u201ctalked to me about my girlfriend proudly without caring that other people could hear us, something she would\u2019ve never done even just a year ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Queer, gay viral takedowns<\/h2>\n<p>Sometimes, an ignorant, anti-LGBT person needs to be taught a lesson\u2014and sometimes, others share their wonderfully savage takedowns on the internet to spread the joy, and maybe even a technique or two.<\/p>\n<p>One medical student in Wisconsin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/04\/06\/professors-perfect-response-to-homophobic-student-goes-viral\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">did just that in April<\/a>\u00a0while recounting a story from one of his classes.<\/p>\n<p>The Twitter user, whose handle was ZachsClubClinic, wrote: \u201cToday in one of our med classes we talked about LGBT patients and the professor isn\u2019t taking anyone\u2019s s**t.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>\u201cI just thought it was a brilliant way to shut him down\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>\u2014 @ZachsClubClinic<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cStudent: What if we don\u2019t feel comfortable treating someone following that lifestyle?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProfessor: Find a different career\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to PinkNews, the tweeter said: \u201cI just thought it was a brilliant way to shut him down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m originally from Zambia, where homosexuality is illegal, so being in an environment now where a professor can just openly shut someone down like that is relieving in a way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/05\/08\/grandma-goes-viral-with-fantastic-comeback-to-sons-anti-lgbt-rant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Another glorious comeback to an anti-LGBT person<\/a>\u00a0was tweeted in May, when user Minovsky wrote that his \u201cdad ranted about how LGBTQIA+ identities were getting too confusing to keep up with\u201d\u2014but don\u2019t worry, because \u201cmy 88-year-old grandma shut him down.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_313599\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-313599\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/images\/2019\/01\/best_queer_viral_moments_2018_twitter_minovskyarticle-650x444.jpg\" alt=\"A grandma telling her son: &quot;The way things are now is better than when people had to hide away or killed themselves because nobody understood who they were. Respect costs you nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Someone, please, drop a mic.<\/p>\n<h2>Funny and educational gay viral moments<\/h2>\n<p>Insights into gender and sexuality can help us all to understand each other and ourselves better\u2014and they\u2019re also often pretty hilarious.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/03\/21\/this-hilarious-viral-post-about-transitioning-shows-what-happens-when-cisgender-people-dont-get-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One prime example of this<\/a>\u00a0came in March, when a gay viral tweet demonstrated exactly what happens when you don\u2019t educate yourself about trans issues.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a tweet which contained someone\u2019s side-by-side transition photos with the caption \u201c2012-2018,\u201d one oblivious user wrote: \u201cI don\u2019t get it, that\u2019s how long yah been married Cis Takes\/twitter)<\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>More than 50,000 retweets and likes later, it was still causing people to laugh uproariously.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/10\/15\/viral-tweet-straight-force-sexuality-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Another tweet highlighting people\u2019s ignorance<\/a>\u00a0came in October, when American activist Alex Jackson pointed out that despite queer people often being accused of trying to sexualise kids, it was actually straight folks who are more likely to do so.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote: \u201cstraight people: gay people are forcing their sexuality onto their children.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>\u201cStraight people, to a 5-year-old boy talking to a girl: IS THAT YOUR GIRLFRIEND.\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>\u2014\u00a0Alex Jackson<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cStraight people, to a 5-year-old boy talking to a girl: IS THAT YOUR GIRLFRIEND.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post led to many people sharing their own experiences of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/12\/13\/courtney-act-fairytale-new-york-faggot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">straight<\/a>\u00a0adults pushing their own sexual experience on children, babies and even foetuses, which was exactly as fantastic as it sounds.<\/p>\n<p>But sometimes, rather than poking fun at others, there are moments when self-deprecating humour is what\u2019s needed, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/05\/23\/this-hilarious-viral-conversation-sums-up-lesbian-dating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one conversation on Tumblr showed this phenomenon in action.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It all started with an anonymous comment sent to 18-year-old user tenderlesbian which read: \u201cSOS I told the girl I like that I want a butch gf and she said \u2018I\u2019m butch\u2019 and I got really flustered and went to go make dinner for us (bc I\u2019m at her place tonight).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tenderlesbian responded: \u201cuhh are you sure y\u2019all arent on a date right now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHi yes you were right I was on a date know how I found out?\u201d the anonymous poster wrote back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was downstairs cooking dinner and she came up from behind me and wrapped her arms around me and kissed the back of my neck and when I flushed bright red she asked me why and then laughed when I said I had a crush on her bc she thought this was like to say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To be fair to the anonymous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/12\/05\/tumblr-porn-ban-erasure-lgbt-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tumblr<\/a>\u00a0user, being self-aware is tough.<\/p>\n<p>A Twitter user called Eleni\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinknews.co.uk\/2018\/05\/07\/this-viral-tweet-shows-how-hilariously-hard-it-can-be-to-label-your-sexuality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">showed exactly how hard introspection can be<\/a>\u00a0when she tweeted in May: \u201cyes i am bisexual. that means i\u2019m into [checks notes] three male celebrities, this one dude that was nice to me at the gas station in 2013, and every single woman to ever exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She then clarified that the viral post was part of her journey towards defining her sexual identity, rather than attempt to throw shade at
