{"id":12670,"date":"2022-08-04T16:51:14","date_gmt":"2022-08-04T11:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pahichan.com\/en\/?p=12670"},"modified":"2022-08-04T16:51:14","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T11:06:14","slug":"celebrating-lgbtq-climate-leaders-influencers-and-organizations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pahichan.com\/en\/celebrating-lgbtq-climate-leaders-influencers-and-organizations\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating LGBTQ+ Climate Leaders, Influencers and Organizations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecowatch.com\/climate-change-guide-2652755448.html\">climate crisis<\/a>\u00a0affects all of us who live on planet Earth. But, it doesn\u2019t affect us all equally.<\/p>\n<p>According to the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), marginalized populations \u2014 including the queer community \u2014 will experience the greatest impacts of climate change.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearth.org.in\/blog\/environment\/how-climate-change-is-affecting-the-lgbtqia-community-74988\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Research shows that marginalized communities are more susceptible to discrimination, exclusion, and violence, which too often leads to homelessness or inadequate housing in areas more likely to feel the impact of air pollution or flooding.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearth.org.in\/blog\/environment\/how-climate-change-is-affecting-the-lgbtqia-community-74988\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0A report by Princeton also found that low-income and minority communities are more likely to live near industrial facilities, and therefore are at a higher risk for chemical exposure.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/psci.princeton.edu\/tips\/2020\/8\/15\/racial-disparities-and-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>As we work to combat climate change, we must also work to fight the hatred and stigma the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) community faces every day. So this Pride Month, EcoWatch has chosen to highlight some of the individuals in this community that are using their platforms to do both of those things.<\/p>\n<h2>LGBTQ+ Environmental Leaders and Influencers to Celebrate<\/h2>\n<p>Fortunately, there are hundreds of LGBTQ+ environmental activists working hard to eradicate these inequalities and work toward a more sustainable and equitable future. Drag Queen and environmentalist extraordinaire, Pattie Gonia first rose to fame on TikTok in December of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s known for bringing attention to environmental mistreatment with clever quips on everything from climate change to littering while strutting in beautiful dresses made out of trash, leaves and other zero-waste items. The platform creates collaborative projects focused on ecological justice and queer liberation to catalyze culture, consciousness and community.<\/p>\n<p>Fontenot is a queer black organizer, farmer and grassroots ecologist with a passion for land and liberation, climate justice and ecological education. Raditz is a queer biocultural geographer, educator and storyteller. Toolan leads the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice work for the Trust and focuses on the management of conservation and youth environmental education.<\/p>\n<p>Toolan\u2019s advocacy goes way beyond the Trust, though. She continues to work to fight climate change and bring more sustainable energy solutions, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecowatch.com\/solar\/best-companies\">solar energy<\/a>, to her home state of Vermont.<\/p>\n<h2>LGBTQ+ Climate Organizations<\/h2>\n<p>Looking for ways to support the LGBTQ+ community in the fight against climate change and inequalities?
