{"id":12941,"date":"2023-11-05T23:28:27","date_gmt":"2023-11-05T17:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pahichan.com\/en\/?p=12941"},"modified":"2023-11-05T23:28:27","modified_gmt":"2023-11-05T17:43:27","slug":"world-bank-managing-director-visits-nepal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pahichan.com\/en\/world-bank-managing-director-visits-nepal\/","title":{"rendered":"World Bank Managing Director Visits Nepal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KATHMANDU \u2013 World Bank Managing Director for Operations, Anna Bjerde, concluded her four-day visit to Nepal yesterday, reiterating the World Bank\u2019s support for Nepal\u2019s green, resilient, and inclusive development (GRID) vision. She was joined by the Regional Vice President for South Asia, Martin Raiser.<\/p>\n<p>Bjerde met with the Rt. Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachand, and the Honorable Minister of Finance, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat. The meetings discussed Nepal\u2019s progress in the GRID agenda, as well as the performance of World Bank-supported projects in Nepal.<\/p>\n<p>Bjerde participated in a high-level event with senior representatives from the government, development partners, private sector, civil society, and academia. During this event, a joint communique was announced to endorse the priorities outlined in the GRID Strategic Action Plan currently being prepared by the government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNepal\u2019s GRID Strategic Action Plan sets a clear course for the country\u2019s development vision,\u201d said Anna Bjerde. \u201cIt is very encouraging to see the strong and effective partnership between the government and development partners as they join forces to support Nepal\u2019s transition to longer-term resilience, inclusion, sustainability, and efficiency for the benefit of the people and the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GRID Strategic Action Plan identifies ten GRID transitions, including managing landscape to optimize benefits from the water-agriculture-food nexus, disaster risk management, resilient roads and sustainable transport, renewable energy, and improved air quality, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Meetings were also held with Nepal\u2019s development partners and representatives from the private sector. Outside Kathmandu, Bjerde and the World Bank delegation visited the proposed Upper Arun Hydroelectric Project site in Sankhuwasabha and the World Bank-financed Earthquake Housing Reconstruction Project site in Kavre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe World Bank is proud to be a trusted partner in Nepal\u2019s development for more than 50 years.
