{"id":4208,"date":"2015-10-16T14:36:48","date_gmt":"2015-10-16T08:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pahichan.com\/?p=4208"},"modified":"2015-10-16T14:36:48","modified_gmt":"2015-10-16T08:51:48","slug":"french-court-recognises-third-gender-for-the-first-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pahichan.com\/en\/french-court-recognises-third-gender-for-the-first-time\/","title":{"rendered":"French court recognises third gender for the first time"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pahichan\/October 16 &#8211; A French court has for the first time recognised a third gender for a person born with both male and female genitalia, a prosecutor said Wednesday.<\/h2>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The plaintiff, who had been considered a man since being designated male at birth, can now use the term &#8220;neutral gender&#8221; on personal official documents as a result of the August 20 court ruling, vice-prosecutor Joel Patard said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The case is however subject to appeal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was originally reported by the daily newspaper <a href=\"http:\/\/www.20minutes.fr\/societe\/1709071-20151014-sexe-neutre-reconnu-justice-vice-procureur-tours-justifie-decision-justice\" target=\"_blank\">20 Minutes<\/a>, which interviewed the individual involved, who is married and has adopted a child.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The plaintiff was born with a &#8220;rudimentary vagina&#8221; and a &#8220;micropenis&#8221; but no testicles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;As a teenager I understood that I was not a boy. I didn&#8217;t have a beard, my muscles didn&#8217;t grow,&#8221; the individual told the paper. &#8220;Today I finally feel I am recognised by society for who I really am.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Patard said the 64-year-old had approached the courts in June to seek the &#8220;neutral gender&#8221; civil status, not wanting such an &#8220;unequivocal&#8221; designation as male or female.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Medical evidence and research showing that the individual was not unique were produced in the case, Patard said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The plaintiff told 20 Minutes that at age 35, after doctors administered testosterone: &#8220;My appearance became more masculine. It was a shock, I no longer recognised myself.
