{"id":5296,"date":"2016-06-26T15:31:38","date_gmt":"2016-06-26T09:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pahichan.com\/?p=5296"},"modified":"2016-06-26T15:31:38","modified_gmt":"2016-06-26T09:46:38","slug":"un-reprimands-uk-and-nepal-for-genital-mutilation-on-intersex-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pahichan.com\/en\/un-reprimands-uk-and-nepal-for-genital-mutilation-on-intersex-children\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Reprimands UK and Nepal for Genital Mutilation on Intersex Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kathmandu(Pahichan) June 26 &#8211; The UN has stepped in to reprimand the UK and Nepal for their genital surgery practices on intersex children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When intersex genital mutilation (IGM) takes place, doctors often decide if their patient is \u201cmore male\u201d or \u201cmore female,\u201d\u00a0 and then conduct a surgery to enhance those characteristics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the UK and Nepal, these surgeries are done without the child\u2019s consent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/HRBodies\/CRC\/Pages\/CRCIndex.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">UN Committee on the Rights of the Child<\/a> reports on the UK and Nepal have issued concern over &#8220;cases of medically unnecessary surgeries&#8221; and &#8220;other procedures on intersex children before they are able to provide their informed consent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These surgeries entail irreversible consequences and can cause severe physical and psychological suffering.
