{"id":7098,"date":"2017-04-23T09:43:19","date_gmt":"2017-04-23T03:58:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pahichan.com\/?p=7098"},"modified":"2017-04-23T09:43:19","modified_gmt":"2017-04-23T03:58:19","slug":"youtube-stops-restricting-lgbt-content","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pahichan.com\/en\/youtube-stops-restricting-lgbt-content\/","title":{"rendered":"YouTube Stops Restricting LGBT Content"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu (Pahichan) April 23 &#8211; YouTube remedied an engineering issue that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.advocate.com\/media\/2017\/3\/23\/no-one-can-explain-why-youtube-bans-some-lgbt-content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">restricted hundreds of thousands of innocuous LGBT-related videos<\/a> in the site&#8217;s Restricted Mode.\u00a0The Google-owned company released a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtube-creators.googleblog.com\/2017\/04\/an-update-on-restricted-mode.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blog post<\/a> on Friday saying the issue has been resolved.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"teads-inread sm-screen\"><\/div>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Back in March, our community alerted us that our systems were not working as intended, in particular, that we were unintentionally filtering content from Restricted Mode that shouldn&#8217;t have been,&#8221; the statement read. &#8220;After a thorough investigation, we started making several improvements to Restricted Mode. On the engineering side, we fixed an issue that was incorrectly filtering videos for this feature, and now 12 million additional videos of all types &#8212; including hundreds of thousands featuring LGBTQ+ content &#8212; are available in Restricted Mode.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As part of the changes, YouTube now offers users <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/youtube\/contact\/yt_restricted_mode\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a method to report<\/a> if a video is restricted unnecessarily.<\/p>\n<p>The site&#8217;s Restricted Mode is intended to shield children from objectionable material, like sex, drug use, and graphic violence. A tech outcry was sparked last month when queer YouTubers complained that their family-friendly videos were being blocked, including content like wedding videos that had no mention of sex.
