Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 20 -Val\u00e9rie Julliand, United Nations Resident Coordinator, has appreciated Nepal’s constitution. She said Nepal’s constitution has addressed LGBTI community providing them constitutional rights.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>She is of the view that it is a positive aspect that constitution has addressed the gender and sexual minority in Nepal. “We are very very happy. Now, we are seeing rainbow flag on one side, and UN flag on another side. We are also seeing a good logo of Blue Diamond Society,” she said.\u00a0 All the citizens are equal and free, and they are equal in terms rights, so LGBTI community should be equal, she said.<\/p>\n

“Freedom and rights mean people should feel psychological security; freedom of participation and equal rights,” she said, adding that there is not such environment for LGBTI community.<\/p>\n

Despite the discrimination against this community in Nepal for the long time, according to her, this community is making efforts to establish their identity in the world. \u00a0“We are very lucky that equal legal rights have been granted to this community but members of this community continue to face discrimination.”\u00a0 She said the rights mentioned in law are in the process of decision, so more things yet to be done.<\/p>\n

“We have found BDS as a good partner in our program which has a vital component of gender inclusive program,” she said. “This flag says that there should not be discrimination in the family in terms of identity. The seven colors in the flag have their own character and meanings,” she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
