Kathmandu (Pahichan) July 31 – A former Navy surgeon has announced that she will waive the fee for trans military personnel who are seeking surgery.<\/p>\n

Dr Christine McGinn, who is trans herself, has said that any trans people scheduled for surgery with her will not have to pay the fees if the government refuses to.<\/p>\n

Dr McGinn\u2019s comments come after\u00a0President Trump announced that the US military would not be accepting trans troops and blamed the cost.<\/a><\/div>\n

Talking on CNN, Dr McGinn pledged to \u201ctake care\u201d of trans veterans.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the commander-in-chief won\u2019t take care of our veterans, our veterans will.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI will do surgery for free on the number of people that I have already lined up for surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n

The doctor, who was previously nominated for the Navy\u2019s flight surgeon of the year award, explained that\u00a0the policy \u2013 which is not yet official \u2013 was obviously transphobic.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s obvious discrimination,\u201d she said. \u201cI think any fifth-grader could see that.\u201d<\/p>\n

She went on to explain that\u00a0Trump\u2019s excuse of cost was not a good enough reason to ban trans military personnel.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s being twisted and spun to make it seem like it would be more than it is.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the cost of getting rid of very well specialised, trained military service people is exponentially larger than just taking care of them,\u201d she said.<\/div>\n

She added that in her own experience of operating on trans troops, they were back to work within a matter of weeks, meaning that\u00a0there isn\u2019t a massive loss in work time either.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cMost of my patients are back to work in six weeks, sometimes two weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that this is getting inflated to make it a little more political,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
