Kathmandu (Pahichan) September 19 – A peaceful vigil for LGBTI student activist turned violent on Monday night. \u00a0Scout Schultz<\/a>\u00a0was shot by police on Saturday night. They were then pronounced dead at the hospital.<\/p>\n

The candlelit vigil took place at 8pm\u00a0EDT.<\/p>\n

Students chanted \u2018Who\u2019s tech? Scouts tech.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s so\u00a0unnecessary\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Then reports say around\u00a050 people marched<\/a>\u00a0from the location of the vigil to Georgia Tech Police headquarters.<\/p>\n

The riot started just after 9:30 pm EDT.<\/p>\n

Georgia Tech Univerity issued an emergency alert, asking all students to stay inside.<\/p>\n

Rioters set a police SUV on fire.<\/p>\n

Two officers<\/a>\u00a0were injured. One was transported to the hospital. Officials said they\u00a0should both be okay.<\/p>\n

Witness Kris Harris said: \u2018Multiple people who attended made it clear it wasn\u2019t Georgia Tech protestors it was people outside of Georgia Tech. It\u2019s so\u00a0unnecessary.\u2019<\/p>\n

Three people were arrested. They were charged with inciting a riot and battery of an officer.<\/p>\n

It has not been confirmed whether the three people arrested were students of Georgia Tech.<\/p>\n

Nelly Miles is a Georgia Burea of Investigation spokeswoman.<\/p>\n

Miles said Schultz was the one to make the 911 call on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

She explained: \u2018In the call, Shultz describes the person as a white male, with long blonde hair, white T-shirt and blue jeans who is possibly intoxicated, holding a knife and possibly armed with a gun on his hip.\u2019<\/p>\n

Three suicide notes were found in Schultz\u2019s dorm room,\u00a0adds Miles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Schultz\u2019s\u00a0father asks<\/a>: \u2018Why did you have to shoot? That\u2019s the question. I mean, that\u2019s the only question that matters right now. Why did you kill my [Schultz]?\u2019<\/p>\n

He says the incident should not have ended with his child\u2019s\u00a0death.<\/p>\n

The attorney for the Schultz family released the following\u00a0statement<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u2018On behalf of the family of Scout Schultz, we ask that those who wish to protest Scout\u2019s death do so peacefully.\u00a0 Answering violence with violence is not the answer.\u00a0 Our goal is to work diligently to make positive change at Georgia Tech in an effort to ensure a safer campus for all students.<\/p>\n

\u2018This is how we will truly honor Scout\u2019s life and legacy.<\/p>\n

\u2018Scout\u2019s family respects the rights of those who wish to voice opposition to what they feel was an unnecessary use of force, but they ask that it be done respectfully and safely.\u2019<\/p>\n
