{"id":8548,"date":"2017-10-14T13:20:30","date_gmt":"2017-10-14T07:35:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pahichan.com\/?p=8548"},"modified":"2017-10-14T13:20:30","modified_gmt":"2017-10-14T07:35:30","slug":"lgbtiq-conference-to-explore-activism-synergies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pahichan.com\/en\/lgbtiq-conference-to-explore-activism-synergies\/","title":{"rendered":"LGBTIQ+ conference to explore activism synergies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"single-byline\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"single-img\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/citizen.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2017\/10\/thami-dish-426x537.png?x39550\" alt=\"Thami Kotlolo via Instagram \" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kathmandu (Pahichan) October 14 &#8211; Coming on board is Emil Wilbekin, New York-based journalist, activist and founder of an American movement for black gay men called Native Son.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"single-content\">\n<p>To commemorate International Coming Out Day this month, the Thami Dish Foundation has launched a first of its kind for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual, Intersexual, Queer-Questioning and others (LGBTIQ+) community to connect young gays in South Africa and across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>The LGBTIQ+ Global Network is a platform that will link non-governmental organisations (NGOs), LGBTIQ+ affinity groups, LGBTIQ+ activists, corporates and governments in a bid to form partnerships that benefit the global community.<\/p>\n<p>The Thami Dish Foundation is an LGBTIQ+ focused NPO geared to educating societies, providing opportunities for LGBTIQ+ youth and creating inclusive communities.<\/p>\n<p>Through event-based platforms, such as conferences and community outreach projects, young members of the community can interact on a global scale with the goal of desensitising the issues the community faces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy vision has always been to create platforms that advance the protection, promotion and visibility of LGBTIQ+ people, identities and communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want this network to unite the world\u2019s LGBTQ+ community. We should speak with one voice and show that we are powerful if we work together,\u201d said chairperson of the foundation Thami Kotlolo.<\/p>\n<p>Coming on board is Emil Wilbekin, New York-based journalist, activist and founder of an American movement for black gay men called Native Son.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was excited about joining forces with the foundation to promote the unity of the LGBTIQ+ community.<\/p>\n<p>After the launch of the forum there will be a five-day global conference in South Africa in October 2018.<\/p>\n<p>It will encourage networking and explore synergies around various forms of activism, expression and economic opportunities. The inaugural theme is Unlocking the world by linking LGBTIQ+ communities globally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe network is my dream \u2013 created by LGBTQ+ groups for the benefit of communities globally to engage, learn and grow.
