Kathmandu (Pahichan) October 25 – Sam Smith has finally explained his embaressing Oscars acceptance speech.<\/p>\n

The multi-platinum selling artist awkwardly claimed that he was the first gay man to ever win an Oscar in his speech to the Academy Awards.<\/p>\n

Of course, Sam was far from the first gay guy to grace the stage and the internet was quick to lay into him for the awkward mishap.<\/div>\n

At the time he told millions of viewers: \u201cI read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen, and he said that no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf this is the case \u2014 even if it isn\u2019t the case \u2014 I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Sondheim, Sir Elton John and Dustin Lance Black might have had something to say about that, however, having all been out winners of the accolade before.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Now Sam has blamed the blunder on a hip flask filled with tequila.<\/div>\n

He told Ellen DeGeneres: \u201cI wasn\u2019t happy with my performance, and we thought we had no chance of winning at all.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I was just like, \u2018Let\u2019s just get the party started,\u2019\u201d he told Ellen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we won, and I was just like, \u2018Whoa.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Admitting that he \u201cobviously\u201d knew he wasn\u2019t the first openly gay man to win an Oscar, Smith confessed: \u201cMy brain and my mouth didn\u2019t work together. I mucked up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sam also sent the internet into a tailspin after he was photographed with a star of 13 Reasons Why.<\/p>\n

He\u00a0revealed to Ellen he had been unlucky in love throughout writing his new album.<\/a><\/p>\n

Sam joked he had kissed \u201chundreds and hundreds\u201d of boys in his time away, before adding: \u201cNo, not that many, but I did kiss a few men.<\/p>\n

\u201cRan around the streets of London and had a good time and I kind of got back to normal life last year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about his romance with 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn, Sam gushed: \u201cNo I\u2019m not [single], which is crazy!<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s weird bringing out an album and not being single. When I brought out In The Lonely Hour I was so lonely.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut now I\u2019m singing songs about this other guy, but I\u2019m quite happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
