Tel Aviv, Israel<\/h2>\n

Ok, so the renowned gay party scene makes Tel Aviv a less unknown candidate, but it\u2019s still remarkable when you consider its proximity to countries where homosexuality is taboo. Saying \u201cthe gay capital of the Middle East\u201d is like saying the \u201cbest song on a Black Eyed Peas album!\u201d<\/p>\n

Regardless, homosexuality is widely accepted in day-to-day life and even celebrated with Tel Aviv\u2019s\u00a0Pride Week<\/a>. This event attracted 200,000 LGBTIs and allies in\u00a02017<\/a>. Shenkin Street and Rothschild Boulevard provide a plethora of\u00a0gay bars and cafes<\/a>. Then there are the gay beaches like Hilton and Ga\u2019ash \u2013 reputed as some of the\u00a0world\u2019s best<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Austin, Texas, USA<\/h2>\n

Sometimes referred to as the blue dot in the red state, it might surprise you Austin is often acknowledged as one of the gayest cities in America. Its motto, \u2018Keep Austin Weird\u2019, encapsulates an almost utopian embrace of race, socio-economic statuses and sexualities.<\/p>\n

While a city of roughly only a million people, Austin is home to over a dozen\u00a0gay bars<\/a>, with a relaxed attitude towards those who frequent them. Oilcan Harry\u2019s swings from wild dancing to tame bingo nights, Iron Bear offers a casual pool table scene (and a casual clothing policy) and Cheer Up Charlie\u2019s does its best to keep Austin weird.<\/p>\n

Taipei, Taiwan<\/h2>\n

Only a few decades ago Taipei was under\u00a0martial law<\/a>. Today it stands proudly as one of Asia\u2019s most progressive cities.<\/p>\n

Taiwan\u2019s gay community has always been more visible than its Asian neighbours, with Taiwan Pride attracting as many as 80,000 marchers every October. The city is also often named Asia\u2019s\u00a0number one gay friendly destination<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Taipei\u2019s reputation for decent food, art, nightlife and markets has resulted in exponential popularity \u2014 a must-see as one of Asia\u2019s best.<\/p>\n

Santiago, Chile<\/h2>\n

Despite Latin America\u2019s varying attitudes towards homosexuality, Chile became the latest country to legalise same-sex marriage only months ago.<\/p>\n

While limited mostly to the chic downtown area, you\u2019ll find gay bars like Station, Farinelli, Burdel and Bar 105, as well as saunas, even a few\u00a0gay hotels<\/a>\u00a0to welcome you. There has also been a significant\u00a0cultural shift<\/a>, with Pride March, sexual diversity and HIV\/AIDS becoming part of the mainstream narrative. And as one of South America\u2019s most thriving and\u00a0peaceful<\/a>\u00a0countries, you\u2019ll feel safe as you make your mark.<\/p>\n

\"Santiago<\/a><\/p>\n

Reykjavik, Iceland<\/h2>\n

While\u00a0Bjork\u2019s popularity<\/a>\u00a0and the capital\u2019s spelling may perplex (it\u2019s pronounced REYK-ya-veek), there\u2019s no confusion about Iceland\u2019s stance on the gays.<\/p>\n

Iceland was the first country to have an\u00a0openly gay Prime Minister<\/a>; legalised gay marriage in 2010 and despite having a population of only approximately 330,000 people, the\u00a0Gay Pride parade<\/a>\u00a0somehow pulled 100,000 \u2014 now that\u2019s a decent crowd.<\/p>\n

Iceland fuses natural wonders like volcanoes and geysers with a modern, gay-friendly capital. There are plenty of\u00a0gay bars, saunas and hotels<\/a>, with unique events like\u00a0Rainbow Reykjavik<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 a mix of nature, comedy shows, dance music, cuisine and activities like gay bingo. In colder months, try the self-explanatory\u00a0Bears on Ice<\/a>. With nearly 24 hours a day of sunshine in summer, and the northern lights in winter, any time of year is a great time to visit.<\/p>\n

\"Reykjavik<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019s important to remember that different countries and cultures have different attitudes towards sex, and particularly sexual health. So if you\u2019re keen to get to know the locals, think ahead and be safe. If you take them, enough\u00a0PrEP or meds<\/a>\u00a0to get you through the\u00a0trip<\/a>\u00a0(take a little extra just in case you extend your stay or misplace some!); and condoms \u2014 regardless of the any other HIV prevention strategy you may be using, condoms will help protect you against other STIs when the situation and partner requires it. And don\u2019t forget, a safe sex regime always consists of regular testing so get tested before and after you trip\u2026 And don\u2019t forget to have fun!<\/p>\n
