Doti (Pahichan) January 28 – There has been drastic change in society regarding the perceptions towards sexual and gender minority. Speaking at a program organized by Blue Diamond Society in Doti, participants said society has gradually accepting gender and sexual minority.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Former lawmaker Sunil Babu Pant played a vital role in establishing the rights of gender and sexual minority. Since 2063, more than two hundred members of gender and sexual minority are receiving various awareness campaigns, according to Program Coordinator Nirang Chaudhary. \u201cWe do not have sufficient data about actual situation of this community.<\/p>\n

Nearly two hundred members of this community have come to our contact,\u201d said Chaudhary. After the establishment of three offices in Kanchanpur, Kailai and Doti, there is an easy environment for this community. Program Officer at BDS Bisoraj Adhikari said it has been easy in society due to the awareness campaign. \u201cThere was not favorable environment in the society but situation has been changed in the recent days,\u201d said Adhikari.<\/p>\n

The population of LGBTI constitutes 10 percent of total population in Nepal. Legal Advisor at BDS Sujan Panta said Nepal is the first country where LGBTI community has received constitutional rights. Pant said even the neighboring countries India and China have mentioned the rights of this community in constitution.<\/p>\n
