Govt to continue awareness program

Kathmandu (Pahichan) July 25 – Government is all set to continue the program related to sexual and gender minority which aims to clear the confusions about this community that prevails in the society.

It is the continuation of previous year’s budget. The title of program is awareness and empowerment of gender and sexual minority.  Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen has decided to organize programs in three places.

The budget, however, has been doubled. For this year, six lakh has been allocated for the awareness program. Last year, only two programs were held and one was cancelled due to the lack of coordination among government agencies.

Last year, such programs were organized only in Kathmandu and Nawalparsi. The venue of this year’s programs is yet to be finalized. Ministry decided to organize such programs removing the plan of organizing vocational training programs. The purpose of the program is that members of this community should disclose their identity, they should unite and they should put forth their demands.

Stakeholders have said that Ministry has not taken sufficient measures to ensure the rights of this community.  “Stakeholders are not raising their voices effectively that is way campaign of this community is no taking pace in a satisfactory level,”
