Kathmandu/Pahichan – Long hair and glamorous dress. Many people thought she was female. But, she had suffered a lot of pain to present herself as female. Though her body formation is like male, her desires matches with women. Pinky Gurung . This is her familiar name. However in citizenship her name is mentioned as Sanjeeb Gurung.

Or, she has not received a proper environment to live in society like male and female.  To become successful, youths need support from family, relatives and live-partner but she has not received. However, she is an exemplary woman in society.

Pinky Gurunng who is fighting for the rights of sexual and gender minority is Chairman of Blue Diamond Society. Though she has not received significant success, she is the campaigner of rights of sexual and gender minority.

 Many people, who used to defame her in the street, are now learning a lot of things from her. She is busy to change the mentality of those people who used to take her in a negative way.

Gurung was born in Lamjung in 2035 and her child days were spent in Kathmandu. She completed her school and college education in Kathmandu. However, it was very difficult for her to make progress in the society where people think in a very narrow perspective.

However, she continued to struggle and continued her mission. Now, she is fully capable to fight for the rights of sexual and gender minority.

Pinky was not able to wear the dresses according to her wishes but now she is free and confident to wear whatever she likes. “It took long time to arrive at this point of time. People will have to meet a lot of obstacles to receive success. Now, I am a trusted partner in society,” he said. Three years ago, her father died due to cancer.  Though her body structure is like male, she has a circle of female friends. She is continuously working to secure the rights of sexual and gender minority.

She struggled hard to transform herself from Sanjeeb Gurung to Pinky Gurung. She used to feel that she is women though body structure was female. In the childhood, she demonstrated the characters of son and her activities were like female when she grew up.

People started to suspect. She was attracted to male not with opposite sex. In school, she faced humiliation.  There is a long list of humiliation with her that she faced during her school days. Now, she wants to forget what happened in the past and focus on future.

She had interest in music since childhood and she was enrolled in RR College after completing SLC exams. She used to wear the dress of male while leaving from home and wear women’s dress in the way. One day, she decided to wear the dress of women in home. It was her first success. In the initial days, she had a long hair she adopted other measures to build her body. Family members were familiar about her so they did not object. However, society took it as a surprise. There was her backbiting but she ignored them.

She met other friends like her. She started to meet in Ratna Park after 1 PM. At that time, there were not any people who could speak in the favor of sexual and gender minority.

Blue Diamond Society was established in 2001. The purpose of this organization was to work to ensure the rights of sexual and gender minority. Initially, there were 6 members and Gurung started to raise voices in favor of sexual and gender minority. She asked her friends to take membership. Gurung became popular among friend circle. It is estimated that there are 6 lakh members of this community. It has been nine years since she became Chairman of Blue Diamond Society.

She is active in politics. She is affiliated with Naya Shakti Nepal party led by Baburam Bhattarai. Baburam Bhattarai for the first time allocated budget to this community when he was finance minister. In the first CA, Sunil Babu Pant served as member of Constituent Assembly. She was nominated by Naya Shakti party under proportional category. Now, she is known as political leader.  She joined politics with a view that it would be easy to address the concerns of this community.  She said even the members of political parties take this community in a negative way. She continues to work for the welfare of this community.
