Kathmandu (Pahichan) December 6 – The number of LGBTI people infected from HIV AIDS has increased in Nepal. According to National Center of HIV AIDS Control, 699 homosexual and transgender were infected by HIV; the number was 561 last year.
Government and non-government organizations are spending more than 2 billion for the care and treatment of HIV affected people. According to Information Officer Bir Bahadur Rawal majority of sex workers and their sex partners are affected from HIV.
Similarly, it has been found that people who go to foreign employment are affected from HIV AIDS. There are 235 government centers for the HIV test and there are 65 ART sites are under operation. Similarly, special program has been launched in 55 districts with a purpose of preventing infection to newly born child. Organizations working in this area are of the view that members of this community still need accessible medical facilities for this community.
World AIDS Day, observed December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. It is common to hold memorials to honor persons who have died from HIV/AIDS on this day.
