Bhairahawa Multiple campus interrogates transgender Manila

Kathmandu (Pahichan) August 1 – Bhairahawa Multiple Campus has interrogated a student having separate gender identity. The student who was appearing BA second year exam of English was asked about her name several times. Transgender Manila Neupane was asked by Deputy Exam Center Chief Aruna Tiwari stating that name and photo do not match to each other. This was an embarrassment for Neupane.

“Tiwari said that she has doubt of her identity which drew the attention of other students as well,” said Manila. “In the view of other students, I was like a criminal, when will we get the environment in educational institute to study without any discrimination?  She asked.

In 2073 BS, she received the citizenship from District Administration Office as per the gender identity. Manila said that it is a matter of shame that even the senior officials of Tribhuwan University are not aware about the gender aspects of Nepal.

She said it is matter of shame though constitution has ensured the rights of our community. She has drawn the attention of concerned authorities. College Chief Anil Kumar Jha said that there was minor inquiry due to the discrepancies between name and photo.  Jha said she was wearing the dress of women but photo was like a boy. “It is just an inquiry and all students irrespective of their gender identity can give their exams,” said Jha.
