Empowerment Campaign for Gender and Sexual Minority Community Members in Entrepreneurship Begins in Nepal

Kathmandu : The sexual and gender minority community in Nepal has initiated a campaign for political inclusion alongside economic empowerment. In collaboration with Maya Ko Pahichan Nepal and Safal Partners, community members began participating in a workshop on business knowledge from Sunday.

The workshop, focusing on basic business skills and proposed business ventures, will run for 10 to 12 weeks. Maya Ko Pahichan Nepal stated that the sessions will cover topics such as identifying opportunities for new businesses, marketing, sales techniques, and cash flow management.

First Openly Gay Member of Parliament in Asia from Nepal and Executive Director of Maya Ko Pahichan Nepal, Sunil Babu Pant, described the campaign for economic empowerment as a golden opportunity for community members. Pant emphasized that the workshop is a valuable chance to develop existing professional skills and take their entrepreneurial ventures to the next level.

“This is our first partnership with Saphal Partners,” Pant said. “We believe this workshop will be fruitful for community members who are either running a business or planning to start one.”

Community members participating in the workshop expressed interest in operating businesses such as tea shops, bars, street stalls, cafes, Grocery, hotels, takeaways, farmhouses, hotels, restaurants, homestays, hospitality services, unisex salons, documentary production, pickle manufacturing, tailoring, and fancy shops.

Business expert and CEO of Safal Partners, Ashutosh Tiwari, noted that the professional skills of community members in these fields are unlikely to be replaced by computers or AI. He added that all these ideas are resilient against disruptions from AI and computer technologies.
