Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 27 – Homosexuals and transgender have expressed concern over the double increase of house rent after the April 25 earthquake. They said that house-owners are pressing them either to accept increment or find another house for rented room. They also drew the attention of Chairman of Blue Diamond Society Pinki Gurung.
They said house owners in Lazimpat, Balaju, Samakhusi, Maharajgunj and Chabahil area are increasing the house rent. All homosexuals and transgender living in Lazimpat area said they have been forced to leave the apartment if they do not accept increment.
Chairman Gurung said the sexual and gender minorities who are always facing discrimination are facing more discrimination after the April 25 earthquake. “In the past also, house owners used to take more tent from house owners than the opposite sex.Now I have received complaints that rent has been doubled after the earthquake,” Gurung said Pahichan online before flying to Bangkok. She requested to warn such house owners. Ministry of Home Affairs has already issued a public notice urging not to increase the house rent.
The Ministry has also requested to inform police if house rent is increased. The Ministry has also asked to provide the details of house owners if rent is increased and Ministry has also warned of taking action. Homosexuals and transgender have said that they are living in the street as houses are cracked. They also said that police is arresting them from the street without any reasons.
