Gender and sexual minorities demand legalization of same-sex marriage

Kathmandu (Pahichan) July 23 – Gender and sexual minorities have demanded their compulsory representation in the state organs. They said such representation should be ensured from grass-root level to center.  During the feedback collection process on draft constitution held in Rupandehi, transgender Anika Rana and Binod Sunar said as a citizen of the country members of this community should get equal rights like man and women. 

They said like other community such as Dalit, Muslim, Janjati, disable people and backward community, there should be reservation quotas for this community.  Rana said this community should not be deprived from the property and this right should be incorporated in the new constitution.

Similarly,  In Hetauda, Suraj Thapa asked not to delete the rights mentioned in preliminary draft of constitution. He demanded to ensure the representation of this community from center to local level. They demanded reservation in helath, education and employment sector and that should be mentioned in the new constitution. They are of the view that same-sex marriage should be legalized in Nepal like in other countries.
