Kathmandu (Pahichan) November 6 – Former member of Constituent Assembly (CA) Sunil Babu Pant has been honored for his contribution in drafting a new constitution.

Umbrella organization of gender and sexual minority Blue Diamond Society honored him. The initiation taken by Pant in the previous CA guaranteed the rights of gender and sexual minority in the new constitution.

Society has also taken suggestions from this community. Chairman of Society Pinki Gurung, Executive Director Manisha Dhakal, Deputy Director Parshuram Rai, Save the children project prakash Niraula, Deputy Director of Diwa project Sanjya Sharma, transgender rightist Bhumika Shrestha, Sushila Lama, Bhakti Shah and Advocate Prem Bahadur Thapa appreciated Pant’s role.  In the first CA, Pant was members of Fundamental Rights and Directives principles.

Pant took initiation to provide citizenship as per gender identity, no discrimination on the basis of gender and sexual minority and ensuring the proportional and inclusive representation of this community.

Though sexual minority was removed in the preliminary draft, it was removed while finalizing the draft of constitution. Pant said members of gender and sexual minority should get citizenship as per their identity for implementation of new constitution. “We should show the citizenship as per our identity,” he said stating that District Administration Offices are providing citizenship without any obstacles. Pant who is living in UK is now in Nepal for Tihar festival.
