Kathmandu (Pahichan) October 25 – Sam Smith has finally explained his embaressing Oscars acceptance speech.
The multi-platinum selling artist awkwardly claimed that he was the first gay man to ever win an Oscar in his speech to the Academy Awards.
At the time he told millions of viewers: “I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen, and he said that no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar.
“If this is the case — even if it isn’t the case — I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world.”
Stephen Sondheim, Sir Elton John and Dustin Lance Black might have had something to say about that, however, having all been out winners of the accolade before.
He told Ellen DeGeneres: “I wasn’t happy with my performance, and we thought we had no chance of winning at all.
“So I was just like, ‘Let’s just get the party started,’” he told Ellen.
“Then we won, and I was just like, ‘Whoa.’”
Admitting that he “obviously” knew he wasn’t the first openly gay man to win an Oscar, Smith confessed: “My brain and my mouth didn’t work together. I mucked up.”

Sam also sent the internet into a tailspin after he was photographed with a star of 13 Reasons Why.
He revealed to Ellen he had been unlucky in love throughout writing his new album.
Sam joked he had kissed “hundreds and hundreds” of boys in his time away, before adding: “No, not that many, but I did kiss a few men.
“Ran around the streets of London and had a good time and I kind of got back to normal life last year.”
Asked about his romance with 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn, Sam gushed: “No I’m not [single], which is crazy!
“It’s weird bringing out an album and not being single. When I brought out In The Lonely Hour I was so lonely.
“But now I’m singing songs about this other guy, but I’m quite happy.”
The pair looked relaxed and content as they were papped strolling through New York City together.
In one photograph, the two guys can be seen kissing while Sam has his arm around the 13 Reasons Why actor.
