Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 18 – Anjal Lama has bagged the award of Miss Pink Pageant 2018. She had disclosed her sexual identity two years ago with the identity of transgender women.

There was competition among 18 participants and she was selected as Miss Pink among top ten. Blue Diamond Society Chairman Pinky Gurung and Aani Lama who won the same title in 2016 provided the title and cash fifty thousand to her.

After receiving the title, she said she has felt immensely happy and thanked BDS for providing such opportunity to her. “Lama who is from Mangaltar of Kavre district said that it is due to her mother’s contribution she made such achievement.

Anisha Dhamala of Kailali became the first runner up securing title and forty thousand cash prize. Aakash Timalsena, the first runner up of 2016 competition conferred from the title.

Awantika Gharti of Rupandehi became second runner up and Palabi Sharma the second runner up of 2016 competition conferred the title. Manisha Lama secured the title of Best Walk, Sapana Lama Beat Talent, Rubina Lama Kanjiniyaliti, Kajol Budathoki Best Dress and Sahira Lama Best Photogenic. All the winner of this title secured 10 thousand cash.

Blue Diamond Society organized the competition in order to show talent of gender and sexual minority. The theme of program was Alliances for Solidarity and there was financial support from Global Fund and Save the Children

Representatives of donor agencies said that Nepal is very liberal country in terms of the rights of gender and sexual minorities. Stating that it is very vital to right the rights of this community in the constitution, they underlined the need of its implementation.

Commissioner of National Human Rights Commission Prakash Wasti said constitution and law must know the sexual and gender minority. Wasti said there will be support full support for the protection of rights of this community.

Chairman of BDS Pinky Gurung said the constitutional rights have not been implemented yet and members of this community have not disclosed their identity.  “There is no access of education, health and employment and members of this community are unable to display their talent and capacity,” said Gurung.

Former Miss Nepal Malvika Subba said members of this community should not be denied from rights. She said she would feel happy if her son becomes homosexual in the coming days. She shared that she has a lot of homosexual and transgender friends. Sagarika KC, former Miss Nepal Nepal said state should respect the talent of transgender women and their talent must not be suppressed.
