Transgender murdered in Chitwan

Kathmandu (Pahichan) October 15 – A transgender has been killed in Narayanghad Chitwan on Saturday night. A dead body of transgender Dipika Uprety(26) was retrieved from a damaged truck near to Lionchowk, Chitwan.

She was working as a volunteer in Human Conscious Society), a LGBTI rights and HIV advocacy organization based in Chitwan district of Nepal.

Dipika’s family has registered an FIR at police office demanding legal action against those involved in murder.  Police Official Sushil Singh Rathaur suspected the murder of Uprety saying that there are two serious injuries in head. Police was informing this community not to stay in this area.

Depika was working to ensure the rights of sexual and gender minority, HIV AIDS prevention since 10 years. Family members expelled her due to the separate gender identity.

Dipika’s last rite has been performed on Sunday. Former member of Constituent Assembly Sunil Babu Pant deplored the killing of Dipika.  “I add my voice calling Nepal government to ensure right to life and safety/security of all LGBTIs in Nepal,” Pant said.
