Kathmandu (pahichan) October 16 – Members of sexual and gender minority are not allowed to apply for DV Lottery disclosing their gender identity. The American Embassy has made arrangements for only male and female.
America is supporting and advocating for the equal rights of sexual and gender minority. However, there are no separate provisions on DV Lottery.
Nepal government is providing citizenship and passport to this community as per their gender identity and some of them have already received those documents but they are not allowed to apply of DV. This may create problems to this community if they win the lottery. Transgender rights activist said, “I want to apply as per my identity but I am not allowed to do so.”
