Kathmandu (Pahichan), October 16-Here is good news for sexual minorities. For the first time, the government has included the issues of sexual minorities in its action plan. The new five-year work plan unveiled by the Office of Prime Ministers and Council of Ministers has stated to implement the policy of providing citizenship certificates, passports and academic certificates to the third genders as per their own gendered identity.
Similarly the government has also planned to carry out public awareness programmes to end the existing delusion and misbelief about the sexual minorities in the society. The action plan aims to protect the rights to live with a dignity for sexual minorities.
For this, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Education have been assigned as the responsible agencies while the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education and various NGOs have been given the responsibility of assisting agencies.
The Blue Diamond Society, an organization working for the rights of LGBTI, has thanked the government for its new move.
The society has long been asking the government to provide the citizenship, passport and academic certificates by mentioning the gendered identity. Once the government’s action plan is implemented, all the discrimination and delinquency that the sexual minorities have been experiencing in the society till now will be ended, BDS believes.
