Bipana Paneru/Kaski (Pahichan) April 17 – National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) has pledged to support the campaign that aims to provide rights to gender and sexual minority. Pokhara Regional Director of Commission Surya Bahadur Deuja said there is coordination with the members of this community to provide the support.
He recalled that when he sees members of this community in the program, he faces the questions that why members of this community are not accommodated. “We will not discriminate. We will work to ensure the right with a feeling that we would not discriminate,” said Deuja. He said BDS is working in a good way in coordination with Commission. “Members of this country can also lead the country,” he said.
Executive Director of Blue Diamond Society Manisha Dhakal said interaction is being held every year in coordination with governmental and non-governmental organizations. “The Supreme Court gave a verdict in 2064 Poush 6 stating that transgender are natural, their rights should be addressed and there should not discrimination against this community,” said Deuja.
According to her, with the issuance of citizenship and passport, the process of implementing the court decision has just begun. Dhakal said report on same-sex marriage is yet to be implemented.
Program Officer of BDS and Transgender rights activist Bhumika Shrestha they are still conveying the message that transgender are natural.
“Some people know while others do not know,” Shrestha said.Raj Thapa and Bindiya Gautam working in the Paribartan Nepal said members of this community are facing a lot of obstacles and pains.
