Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 9 – Monica Shahi, a permanent resident of Chuha Municipality ward-2, has announced of marrying with a male having same-sex. Organizing a press conference at Reporters Club, Monica announced of marrying with Ramesh Nath Yogi, permanent resident of Parshuram Municipality, Dadeldhura.

This is first couple in Nepal who has publicly announced their marriage. The younger daughter of Karna Bahadur Shahi and Masara Shahi, said of marrying secretly three months ago and it is very difficult to find male like Ramesh in the society.

“Today, I am very happy because we married three months ago and we have presented as proofs today,” said Shahi adding that they will become the example in the society and love each other very much. Shahi became sentimental saying that hundreds of members of this community are living very tough life.

“I am very happy today but our happiness is not sufficient all members of this community should be happy,” Shahi said, adding that they are equally capable and knowledge like male and female.  Shahi said every members of this community have the wishes of marriage.

Shahi said they have abandoned their family and taking society as their guardian. “Only giving birth is not a big deal, we have abandoned our family and we love each other. You journalists are our guardian, we have married keeping journalists as witness,” said Shahi. Shahi said state shoud change its view towards gender and sexual minority.  Januka Chhetri who was presented as a guardian, sports marriage of homosexual and transgender is an example for the South Asia.

She said that all people should learn something from this. Literary figure  Samipa Shah said she has completed a thesis about the life and love of transgender. According to her, the social condition of this community is very sad. Shah said as a fourth organ of state, journalist should write positive stories about gender and sexual minority. Shah is first transgender in Nepal to receive passport under O category.
