Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 19 – The British Ambassador, Mr Richard Morris, raised the Rainbow flag at the Embassy to mark the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
The UK is committed to non-discrimination on any grounds, including sexual orientation and gender identity. We are committed to promoting and protecting the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGB&T) people; LGB&T people are not asking for special rights, merely to be accorded the same dignity, respect and rights as others. Human rights are universal and should apply equally to all people. The UK is implacably opposed to all forms of discrimination and works to uphold the rights and freedoms of LGB&T people in all circumstances, according to UK Embassy .
The Embassy appreciates the efforts made by the LGBTI community in promoting inclusion and equality in Nepal, as well as noting the progress and steps taken by the Government of Nepal and the courts.
The Ambassador said “Around the world, UK Embassies work to promote tolerance and non-discrimination against LGB&T people and to address discriminatory laws, in particular those that criminalise homosexuality.
The UK is a champion of the rights of LGB&T people. We seek opportunities to promote human rights and prevent discrimination, including on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity, said the Embassy.
