Ambika Dahal/Kathmandu (Pahichan) August 8 – Executive Director of Blue Diamond Society Manisha Dhakal has said that inter-sex people are still facing discrimination in the society. In some places, Dhakal said, inter-sex children are compelled to change their identity against their will and wishes.

Speaking at the al concluding ceremony of national conference of inter-sex people, Dhakal said there is high presence of this community. Earlier, BDS has taken the initiative of registering the birth of inter-sex children in Bara District. “Now, this issue has drawn international attention,” Dhakal said.

Dhakal requested members of this community to translate their knowledge into practice. There was the participation of 29 inter-sex people of 11 districts. Deputy Director of Blue Diamond Society Parshuram Rai said the issue of inter-sex is not a minor issue.

He requested to disclose their identity. Inter-sex rights activists Ishan Regmi there should not be discrimination to inter-sex people. Inter-sex people shared their plights that they are facing discrimination in the college. Members of this community are denied from scholarship in the college. Prakash Niraula, National Program Coordinator of Save the Children project of BDS said inter-sex people should maintain a caution to avoid HIV infection. Bhakti Shah of Sahara project underlined the need of documentation.

The program was inaugurated by Chairman of Blue Diamond Society Pinky Gurung. “The issue of inter-sex people is different from other issues so it should be dealt separately,” said Gurung. The agenda of inter-sex people is the common of LGBTI community,” said Gurung. Gurung said along with constitutional and legal framework, there is a need of empowerment of individual.  The first conference of inter-sex people was held in 2016.
