Kathmandu (Pahichan) December 21 – Yuwalaya, an organization working for youths, has organized a panel discussion on marriage equality.Yuwalaya’s general secretary started the program with welcome speech. She emphasized the need to work and talk about LGBTI rights. She said, “It is necessary for people from authorities to the grassroots to understand on marriage equality.”
The program was supported by Right Here Right Now, organized by Yuwalaya and co-ordinates with Blue Diamond Society and FSGMN. Shilpa Lanichhane from Visible Impact explained about RHRN platform. “RHRN is an international platform of advocacy in Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights. RHRN platform in Nepal advocates on marriage equality, safe abortion and comprehensive sexuality education,” she said.
President of Yuwalaya Sabin Singh emphasized on need to address human rights of every human being, which marriage equality is also a part of. He talked about the Supreme Court verdict of 2064 and its decisions. Chairman of Blue Diamond Society, Pinky Gurung explained establishment of BDS and achievements it has made so far. Under Secretary at Ministry of Women Children and Social Welfare Bharat Sharma explained the current status of same sex marriage draft and committee formed to review it.
Senior Advocate Hari Phuyal is working with the issue since beginning. He explained on existing legal provisions for LGBTI. Neetu Ghale from Annapurna Post shared her experiences of writing in newspaper on LGBTI. The censorship and stigmatization of news agency comes with it.
