I am going to start my PHD in LGBTI -Advocate Panta

Kathmandu (Pahichan) February 15 – Advocate Sujan Panta has said that he would achieve a PHD degree on LGBTI issues. Panta is working as a Legal Officer at Blue Diamond Society. “There has been rapid legal progress in the field of LGBTI. Since I joined BDS in 2010 there has been a big progress in law-making process,” said Panta. Panta’s thesis theme BALLB and LLM is also LGBTI.

“I am in consultation with professors of both Nepal and other countries. I have felt that their attention has been drawn from my write-up and views,” said Panta. He said it is a matter of happiness to get opportunity to do study and research on LGBTI issues.

Panta said society is drastically accepting the LGBTI community. According to him, the issue of LGBTI was brought in limelight when Sunil Babu Pant organized a public rally in 2001 and subsequently established Blue Diamond Society.

“At that time, a writ was filed in court to disband the movement of such people. Now, Nepal’s Supreme Court has taken several progressive decisions which has set examples in international arena,” Panta said. “Nepal’s Supreme Court first the first time coined the word transgender. Now, third gender is widely used in international English,” he added.
