Kathmandu (Pahichan) February 28 – Women rights activist Durga Thapa has said issues relating to all types of women will be discussed in the conference related to convention on ending all violence against women. Speaking to Pahichan, Thapa said issues relating to lesbian women and transgender women will be figured in the conference.
“Nepal’s constitution has mentioned about the rights of equality. There is provision of acquiring citizenship on the basis of gender identity and social justice has been ensured. However such provisions are not properly implemented,” said Thapa.
“In Nepal lesbian women and transgender women are not accommodated within the framework of women’s right,” said Thapa. Thapa who is going to attend the conference will present the issues related to LGBTI.
“CIDA is working to address the issues related to lesbian and transgender women. Though Nepal is a party of that convention, there has not been implementation,” Thapa added.
Thapa said that CIDA will exert pressures on government for the implementation of convention. She informed that both report prepared by government and CIDA will be presented in Geneva and issues of same-sex marriage will be figured out in conference. “Government is dilly-dallying to formulate laws ensured by constitution and this could be one agenda in the conference” she added.
