NSU disappoints LGBTI community

Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 22 – Nepal Student Union which adopted an inclusive statute from its 11th General Convention has faced difficulties to implement its statute. The NSU had decided to incorporate Janajati, women, Madhesi, marginalized community and sexual gender minority has not been implemented though there are just four months left to expire the tenure.

Chairman Nain Singh Mahar has not made any appointment following the inclusive principle. Mahar was vague and unclear when he was asked about the representation of sexual and gender minority.

“I will provide a complete shape to Central Working Committee respecting the spirits of statue,” he said. Spokesperson of NSU Prem Joshi who is also General Secretary said it is up to the Chairman to make appointment and there is only one quota from sexual and gender minority, people with disability and other marginalized community. Joshi said he cannot say anything at this moment. “I can guarantee scholarship from school level to university. We can press schools to provide scholarship,” said Joshi.

Central Committee members of NSU Sushil Bhatt said all responsible leaders are not working to make the organization strong. “Chairman should have formed CC adopting the principles of inclusion but he is involved in the factional politics, he is failing to make organization lively and moveable,” Bhatt said.

He said members of sexual and gender minorities were encourage when the statute was formulated and they were selected as gender convention but there is a sense of pessimism due to the lack of representation. “Bhakti Shah and Sahas Battala had high degree of encouragement but now they are very pessimistic,” Bhatt said. He blamed Chairman for such state of affairs.
