LGBTI members not allowed joining government job

Kathmandu (Pahichan) February 6 – In a depressing move, government is introducing new Federal Service Act bill which bars members of LGBTI community to fight for government job.

The issues of this community have not been mentioned in the bill. Ministry of General Administration and Federal Affairs has neglected LGBTI community. Public Service Commission is receiving forms which includes male, female and others sections.

The bill has ensured the reservation for Madhesi, Dalit, persons with disabilities but there are not such provisions for LGBTI community. According Ministry Spokesperson Suresh Adhikari, there are not any provisions for this community. In Poush 6, 2064, Supreme Court of Nepal issued a circular in the name of government urging to conduct study about the prospects of legalizing same-sex marriage in Nepal.

The article 12, 18 and 42 of the constitution has ensured the rights of this community. However, discriminatory approach taken by Ministry in formulation of laws has denied this community to fight for government job which goes against the constitutional provisions and Supreme Court order.

Earlier, members of this community submitted a memo to Minister Lal Babu Pandit to ensure the recruitment of this community in government job but there was not any initiation.
