Kathmandu (Pahichan) February 13 – Universal Secondary School has expressed the commitment that it would discriminate the students from sexual and gender minority. Principal of School Bijaya Raj Kharel said there would be comfortable and easy environment for sexual and gender minority.
The school is located in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu. The principal made such commitment after watching the drama prepared by Mitini Nepal, an organization working for the minority rights. Kharel said drama touched his heart and he does not have negative attitude towards sexual and gender minority.
“School level is the first and important step of any children and if they face discrimination in this phase it will create negativism in their mind,” he said. Kharel was of the view that school level education should be free from any forms of discrimination. When a third gender shared a story of discrimination, audiences turned sentimental in the program. The drama was targeted for grade 9 and 10 students.
General Secretary of Mitini Nepal Sarita KC said that members of this community are facing discrimination from teachers and it should come to an end. Inter-sex rights activist Bipin Kadayat requested to make an encouraging environment for this community to study in school.
