Kathmandu (Pahichan) March 19 – Naya Shakti Nepal party has demanded to scrap the provisions of proposed citizenship bill which would hurt the dignity of sexual and gender minority. Issuing a press statement to unveil the decision of party’s Secretariat meeting, Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai demanded to remove such provisions.
Provisions in the proposed bill state that people need to present a proof of sex change if they want to change their gender identity on the citizenship card. The current provision allows people to choose ‘male’, ‘female’ or ‘others’ as their sex on government-issued documents.
Bhattarai said such provisions would hurt the dignity of sexual and gender minority. Members of sexual and gender minority have demanded to scrap such provisions.
