NHRC urges govt to ensure people’s access in government services

Kathmandu (Pahichan) April 10 – National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has demanded to ensure people’s access in the services that state provides. NHRC has also urged the concerned agencies to become sensitive to end caste and gender-based discrimination.

In a statement issued after the monitoring of status of human rights in Khotang, Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu districts regarding caste discrimination and other discrimination, NHRCH has called to become sensitive about the human rights of marginalized community.  According to a statement issued by Secretary Bed Bhattarai, people’s access to government service still remains dismal.

During the monitoring, the NHRC met the representatives of Dalit community, Dalit member at rural municipality and local people about the prevalent of the sorts of discrimination they are facing.  It has been found that discrimination is taking place in assembly, meetings and other religious and cultural gathering.

The Monitoring has also found that senior citizens have not received 50 percent discount in public vehicle.  The discrimination continues and still there is wage disparity between male and female.  Similarly, children are still deprived from basic facilities such as education, health among others.  According to report, as youths are in abroad for employment senior citizens are facing a lot of difficulties to live and there are also the cases of family fragmentation.

Similarly, the report has pointed out that it is not easy to write on corruption and discrimination related issues in local level. The NHRC has urged to provide services to all, to ensure equal wage, to ensure gender equality and end all sorts of discrimination.
