Kathmandu (Pahichan) May 8 – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that government is fully committed for the promotion and protection of human rights. Speaking in parliament, Oli said as he fought for the protection and promotion of human rights, he is fully committed for human rights.
PM was responding to the quires raised by Parliamentarian over the policy and program, PM said the meaning of human rights should be understood in a broader way. He said other’s human rights should be jeopardized while exercising your human rights.
“I am talking about democracy for all but I am being labeled as a dictator,” PM said. He said the last one year has been a base year in terms of formulation of laws. “Not only in the formation has laws it is been a base year in many respective,” he added. He said violence against women will be effectively curtailed. PM, however, did not spoke about the rights violation of sexual and gender minority. Lawmakers were also unaware about the constitutional rights of sexual and gender minority.
Lawmaker Sujata Pariyar said that policy and program has not addressed the issues of marginalized community. Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand objected to the draft of bill relating to National Human Rights Commission which aims to curtail the autonomy of the constitutional body. In the meeting, opposition parties requested to maintain dignity of the parliament. PM said NHRC is fully autonomous to fulfill its tasks.
